Centro das Mulheres do Cabo (Women’s Center of Cabo) is a feminist organization based in the city of Cabo de Santo Agostinho, in the metropolitan area of Recife, Brazil. They work with the community to fight gender and race based violence and to promote women’s and youth rights.
They have worked for the development of this community for more than 30 years, with important achievements in terms of fighting violence against women and promoting their rights. Communication has always been an important aspect of their work as they try to engage the community in different ways, including two radio shows
The city of Cabo de Santo Agostinho was pointed as number one in terms of vulnerability of the youth in Brazil. The Women’s Center wanted to change that reality by engaging the youth socially and politically and give them the tools to create a better future for themselves and their children. Kelly Satchell spent a month working with Mulheres do Cabo to create an identity for the Youth Forum in Cabo, and engage adolescents and young adults in the activities promoted by Mulheres do Cabo.
The placement was a huge success in terms of creating a group identity and engaging the youth in the forum. Kelly achieved in one month what the local organizations had tried for year, and everyone felt it.
