The power of taking time off

:: 21 november 2009

Taking time out of your everyday routine and immersing yourself in a new reality will rejuvenate and refresh your creative outlook. In this TED talk, renowned designer Stephan Sagmeister shares his rationale for closing down his New York studio for an entire year every seven years.

During his last sabbatical, he came to the conclusion that:

* His job became a calling again.

* Over the long term, it was a financially successful exercise due to the positive impact on the quality of his work.

* Everything his studio designed in the seven years following the Year of Nothing had originated in it.

Sometimes it’s not possible to take a year out, but taking an amount of time out of your daily routine is vitally important for all of the reasons above.  And TIE provides professionals with just that.  By taking people out of their environment for a month they are able to gain that new perspective to innovate and come up with new ideas, without having to quit their jobs.
